First lecture of "Latin America and China" series : China-Latin America relations heading into a new era: current situation and outlook

The first lecture of "Latin America and China" series was successfully conducted by Fudan development institute and College of Foreign Language and Literature in 14: 30, 10th, September, 2018. The main topic of the lecture was "China-Latin America relations heading into a new era: current situation and outlook" while the speaker was Mr.GUO CUNHAI, the director of Journal of Latin American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Secretary-general of Fudan development institute Dr. CHEN YINZHANG, Director of Department of Spanish Language of Fudan University Dr. CHENG GEYANG, Vice Consul General for Panama at Shanghai, the coordinator of research council of Mexico Vera Cruise University, the researcher of Changzhou University Latin America studies, the researcher of SHU-CONICET attended the lecture. Also, there were about 60 attendees including teachers and students of Fudan University.

  

The speaker Mr. GUO CUNHAI, the Executive director and Deputy Secretary General of the Latin American Society of China, Executive director of Argentina Research Centre, co-founded and is in charge of the CECLA. He is also the academic leader in Latin American culture. Having visited Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Cuba and Jamaica and carrying on academic exchanges with peers, Mr. GUO CUNHAI is studying the ideas and culture of Latin America, China-Latin America relations, Chinese cultural diplomacy towards Latin America and Chinese investment and sustainable development in Latin America as well.

During the lecture, Mr. GUO elaborated the historical process of china and Latin America, from revolution to war, from reform to development. Meanwhile, he analyzed the investment scale, industrial distribution and export structure towards China by full and accurate data. Mr. GUO pointed out that since 2015, China and Latin America’s cooperation has moved forwards from the state of economic cooperation to all-round cooperation under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s global line. Bilateral needs, dividend policy paves the way for the corporation between China and Latin America. Despite of the challenges and development that come along with Belt and Road Initiative in its fifth year, our wishes to further promote communication and cooperation with Latin American countries are never lessened.

“Latin America and China” lecture has 3 rounds. Each round has 2-3 parts, and will invite experts of Chinese and Latin American research field. The second part of first round lecture will be conducted in Room 106, Think Bank Building, Fudan university with the theme of “amazing Latin America ---the wild world of relationships among China and foreign countries”. The speaker is professor of western languages at Shanghai International Studies University, doctoral supervisor Mr.LU JINGSHENG, who is also the Deputy director of the foreign language teaching steering committee of the ministry of education, director of the Spanish sub-committee, foreign communications academician of the Royal Academy of Spain. He was served as the director of western languages at Shanghai International Studies University (1995-2014), President of the association of Asian Spanish scholars(2010-2013).
