Post-doctoral Research Position – China, Latin America and Sustainable Development
The Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, Peru is welcoming applications for the position of Full-Time Postdoctoral Researcher focusing on issues of China and Sustainable Development in Latin America.
Objectives
This position is for a postdoctoral researcher who will join our team for a period of one to three years, with the possibility of annual renewal by mutual agreement. Our aim is to strengthen the center’s research capabilities in the areas of environment, energy, and sustainable development. This includes examining the environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts of Chinese investment in this region, as well as the potential for strategic collaboration towards a just energy transition. At least part of his or her time would involve participation in a multi-national project examining the challenges and opportunities presented by China´s role in the global energy transition and its investments in critical minerals and energy in Latin America.
Responsibilities
– Conduct research and publish results in ranked academic journals or presses.
– Participate in a program of policy-oriented research and multi-stakeholder dialogue with colleagues in China and other Latin American countries.
– Teach one undergraduate or graduate course or seminar per year, on subjects of the researcher´s specialty, and supervise students pursing theses on related subjects.
– Participate in conferences, workshops and other events organized by the Center.
– Collaborate with other colleagues and peers, including professors and researchers from the larger Research Center of the UP (CIUP), when opportunities arise.

Requirements
– Doctoral Degree (PhD or equivalent), in Economics, other Social Sciences, Development, or related disciplines.
– Research focus on environment and sustainable development, and/or energy policy and energy transition, and/or extractive industry governance, involving the role of China in the Global South, preferably in Latin America.
– At least two prior publications of recognized academic quality on related issues.
– International academic or professional experience, preferably in China or Latin America.
– Advanced-level proficiency in English. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese or Spanish
desirable but not required.
