The Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario (referred simply as Universidad del Rosario) is a private, autonomous, non-profit-making institution. It was founded in 1653 and throughout its 367 years of history has been recognized as one of the most important universities in Colombia.
Our unchanged mission is to provide a solid ethical, humanistic, and scientific education that, together with research and suitable and demanding teaching, allows this educational community to educate people who act for the benefit of society, with a maximum sense of responsibility.
Universidad del Rosario was rated four QS stars, achieving the maximum of five QS stars in three categories: facilities, employability, and teaching. It ranks among the top 50 universities in the region according to the QS LatAm University Rankings (2020) and number 751-800 by QS World University Ranking (2020). Furthermore, it is the first university in Latin America being granted with the five-year international accreditation from the European Quality Assurance Agency (EQAA).

Research:
Research is a substantive function at Universidad del Rosario as well as teaching and extension, the three of them intrinsically linked. The University has been recognized not only to provide students with high-quality programs and academic excellence but also to afford solutions to specific problems of Colombian society. The University currently has 47 research groups, out of which 40 are officially recognized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia, and 45% of them ranked in the highest category nationally provided.
Aware of the need for interdisciplinary research, the University also promotes the conformation of multidisciplinary groups developing knowledge and solutions around cross-cutting issues such as the challenges associated with the Sustainable Development Goals. The main research subjects include peace and post-conflict, gender, democracy, and political representation, climate change, aging, and technology at the service of the state and human rights in digital environments.
The University is a top institution in research production nationwide, ranked sixth in Colombia, and in the top 50 according to SCImago Institutions Ranking (2020). Our knowledge areas with higher production are Medicine, Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular Biology. By 2019, 47% of the University’s production was developed with international collaboration.
